Although this artistic work is not an animation, it was designed by Colin Emmett and Alan Kitching in August 1974 and generated using the ANTICS animation system at the Atlas Computer Laboratory. The scales of the snake’s body are the months of the year in-betweening from one name to the next so that, January transforms to February in 31 increments and then March in 28 increments etc. The design was digitised on a DMAC digitiser and black/white output came via the SC4020 with off-line colouring.
Only 200 prints were made. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London has a copy. Copies also exist on the Chilton site (where the SC4020 master was made) and at the Technical University of Darmstadt's Computer Science Department.
