By 2015, the future of SVG declarative animation did not look very bright. W3C and the main browsers seemed to be on the way to dropping it in favour of animated transitions in CSS.

By 2025, support for SVG declarative animation had improved and Chrome, Edge and Mozilla all provide support for most of SVG declarative animation.

The GSAP Javascript library provides an extended alternative implementation of the facilities in the declarative animation part of SVG.
